LEED® The Way
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system was created by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a way to encourage the development of sustainable buildings. It provides guidelines and performance criteria for owners and contractors to implement.
There are five main environmental categoris that LEED gives credit in: Sustainable Sites (SS), Water Efficiency (WE), Energy and Atmosphere (EA), Materials and Resources (MR), and Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ). Additional points are available for Innovation In Design and Regional Priority. The breakdown of the points for the LEED certification system are as follows:

There are a total of 110 points availabe with a minimum of 40 to be Certified. Innovation In Design credits can contribute up 6 points and Regional Priority credits can contribute up to 4 points.
